BB Gandanghari

BB Gandanghari is probably the most controversial showbiz figure of 2009. The former Rustom Padilla had shed whatever manly image he had left and turned himself into the glamorous, statuesque BB Gandanghari. After coming out on national television through the reality show Pinoy Big Brother: Celebrity Edition, the former matinee idol and action star has gone all the way and adapted the clothing and bearings of a woman.

Even when he was still Rustom Padilla, BB was constantly hounded by rumors about his sexuality. The end of his long marriage with actress Carmina Villaruel only intensified talks about him being gay. The fact that he came from a family of macho, rugged actors (Robin and Rommel Padilla are his brothers) did not make things easy for him.

After coming out, BB, who was still Rustom during that time, starred in the film version of comic book Zsa Zsa Zaturnnah. He took on more gay roles, and people started to acknowledge his sexuality. The sudden transformation to BB Gandanghari shocked everyone however, because no one really expected him to dress like a woman. BB studied modeling in New York to further polish his feminine appearance and gait. During an interview on the show Startalk, BB related the training he had to do to change his muscular body structure.

BB can now be seen practically everywhere with her new look. He graced numerous TV shows, events, magazine spreads. He also hosted the 2009 National Kidlat Awards held in Boracay. BB is currently one of the stars of the primetime series Eva Fonda.
