Jolina Magdangal
Multi-talented Jolina Magdangal is a great example of versatility in showbiz. The petite Jolens, as she is fondly known, is an accomplished singer, actress, TV host and entrepreneur. Born on November 6, 1978, Jolina started her music career as one of the members of 14-K, Ryan Cayabyab’s musical group. ABS-CBN spotted her potential and was asked to join the youth-oriented show Ang TV. Soon, she was starring in other of the network’s shows, such as Abangan ang Susunod na Kabanata and ‘Sang Linggo Na Po Sila. Jolina is one of the teen actors chosen for another youth-oriented show Gimik, and was paired with Marvin Agustin. The Marvin-Jolina loveteam was a hit among fans, and became one of the most successful and enduring pairings within their batch.
The actress also made her mark in films, and starred in movies such as Ama, Ina, Anak, FLAMES: The Movie and Kung Ayaw Mo Huwag Mo. At the same time, Jolina’s singing career flourished. She released her first album A Wish Come True in 1996 and was followed with her self-titled album in 2008. The singer released four more albums from 1996 to 2008.
The dynamic Jolina also got into the retail business. She created her own fashion line and boutique, Jolina’s Gallery Shop. She also scored numerous endorsement contracts, most of them from big-name brands such as Jollibee, AMA Computer College, Sunsilk, Avon and Ligo Sardines.
Years after being a contract star of ABS-CBN, Jolina decided to move to rival network GMA. The latter wasted no time casting Jolina in primetime shows such as I LUV NY, where she was reunited with Marvin Agustin. She was given hosting stints on reality talent shows Starstruck Kids and Starstruck 2. Jolina was also a mainstay of the weekly variety show S.O.P.
Jolina accomplished much in her still young career, hauling awards left and right for her acting and singing. She was also given lots of recognition from youth foundations because of her wholesome image – Jolina was never involved in any nasty intrigues or scandals, making her a perfect example for the youth.
The star had a long-term relationship with Bobong, but broke up in early 2009, which surprised her fans.
