Araneta Center
The Araneta Center is a commercial complex built around the Araneta Coliseum, the preferred venue for most of the major concerts and sports events in the country. Developed by Araneta Center Inc., the complex is a sprawling, 35-hectare property composed of shopping malls, bars and restaurants.
Aside from the coliseum, another landmark in the complex is the Gateway Mall, a five-story destination for shopping, entertainment and dining. The mall is known for having the first La-Z-Boy theater in the Philippines, which is only one of the 10 posh cinemas inside the premises.
Housed inside the Araneta Center are Ali Mall and Farmers Plaza, some of the oldest malls in the metro. Ali Mall is known for being the country’s first fully enclosed mall, and is currently undergoing extensive renovation and major makeover. Farmers Plaza is known for having shops that offer merchandise with affordable prices. It is directly linked to the MRT 3 station, which makes it the Araneta Center’s gateway to Edsa.
Other structures within the Araneta Center complex include Farmers Market, the Aurora Tower and Cubao Expo, a group of shops and cafes that has become a favorite hangout of bohemians and artistic crowd.
Recently, Megaworld Corp. started the construction of Manhattan Garden City within the complex. It is a prime real estate project which is a joint venture with the Araneta Group, and it is expected to generate new revenue sales worth PHP6 billion. The first two phases of the condominium were sold out in just a little over two years. The third phase, called Manhattan Heights, will have residential units that will sell units from PHP2.5 million to PHP6.1 million.
The main endorser of Gateway Mall is actress and TV host Kris Aquino.
