Cebu Hospital Scandal Doctors and 1 Nurse Finally Identified

Three months after a video scandal that occured inside an operating room of the Vicente Sotto Memorial Hospital (VSMMC), three doctors and one of the nurses involved were finally named. Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Francisco Duque III identified the VSMMC medical staff as Philips Leo Arias (head surgeon), Angelo Linawagan and Max Joseph Montecillo (assistant surgeons), Rosemarie Villareal (nursing attendant) and Carmina Sapio (circulating nurse).

Secretary Duque said that more individuals may be named as respondents, depending on the outcome of their own investigation.

Since more than 4 cameras were observed in the video and a lot more were heard jeering and mocking the victim, it is expected that more respondents will be named in the investigation.

  1. Now that they are named, what will happen to them? Also, there are at least a dozen people inside the OR theater, so why only 4 people? Anyway, hope the hospital and licensing bodies for docs and nurses do something more definite than naming names.
    Thanks for the update.

  2. Hi Deb,

    Thanks for your comment.

In addition to what you wrote, I hope that the government will move quickly and immediately bring this to closure. The longer it takes for it to happen, the more mess there will be.

    See you around!
