Sunshine Dizon

Born Margarette Sunshine Cansancio Dizon on July 3, 1983, actress Sunshine Dizon started early in showbiz. It helped a lot that her mother was a TV and film producer. Her first movie was God’s Little Children. Even at such a young age, Sunshine already experienced working with some of the established names in the business, such as Dina Bonnevie, Fernando Poe Jr. She earned her first FAMAS trophy, the Best Child Actress award, for the film Kahit Butas ng Karayom Papasukin Ko. In television, she became part of That’s Entertainment for several months and became a regular cast in the comedy show Bubble Gang.

When she entered her teens, Sunshine was relaunched and cast in the afternoon series Anna Karenina along with other aspiring teen stars such as Dingdong Dantes, Antoinette Taus and Polo Ravales. They also became the new cast of the hit youth-oriented show TGIS (Thank God It’s Sabado). The exposure made Sunshine and her co-actors popular teen stars during the 1990s. Teenybopper flicks soon followed, which further expanded their fan base.

In 2001, Sunshine got the chance to prove herself as a dramatic actress. She was given a brief role in the primetime drama Ikaw Lang Ang Mamahalin. Afterwards, she was given her own soap opera, Kung Mawawala Ka, opposite Cogie Domingo. The actress also tried during comedy, such as the film Masikip sa Dibdib.

Sunshine reached the turning point of her career when she was cast in the fantasy series Encantadia. She earned two Best Actress trophies for her portrayal of Sang’gre Pirena. Her biggest break however, was in the TV adaptation of the film Bakekang, the title role which was originally played by no less than Nora Aunor. This completed the transition of Sunshine from teen star to serious actress.

More meaty TV roles followed after Bakekang. She is currently stars in All About Eve, and is set to be part of another primetime series Rosalinda.
