Richard Gutierrez

Richard Gutierrez is undoubtedly one of the highest-paid and bankable actors in the industry today. Born on January 21, 1984 in Beverly Hills, California, he is one of the children of 1960s matinee idol Eddie Gutierrez and former actress Annabelle Rama. Richard is the identical twin brother of Raymond Gutierrez. Ruffa Gutierrez-Bektas is his older sister. Just like their parents, the siblings are fixtures in Philippine showbiz.

He and his brother Raymond got exposed to the cameras at an early age. They appeared in several commercials, and they were recognizable for being the adorable twin brothers that they are. When they reached their teens, the twins worked on their separate careers. In 2001, Richard was then cast by GMA-7 in the teen-oriented show Click, which paired him with Chynna Ortaleza.

In 2004, Richard was cast in Mulawin, the show that gained him nationwide popularity. Co-starring Angel Locsin, the fantasy show became a hit, which prompted GMA-7 to create a movie from it. The show marked the start of the Richard-Angel loveteam, and the pair appeared together in more shows and movies.

After Mulawin, Richard became a staple in primetime television. Year after year, the young star was given the lead roles in popular series. In 2005, he was cast in Sugo. In 2006, it was the remake of the Mars Ravelo classic, Captain Barbell. In 2007 starred in Lupin and Kamandag. In 2008, he played the half-human, half-robot agent in Codename: Asero.

Richard also became a leading man in films as well. He starred in numerous hits such as Mulawin the Movie (2005), Mano Po 5: Gua Ai Di (2006), My Bestfriend’s Girlfriend (2008) which starred him with Marian Rivera and For the First Time, which paired him with KC Concepcion.

He is set to star in Zorro in 2009, which is slated to be another primetime hit.

Lovelife and controversies

With his matinee idol looks and red-hot career, Richard is one of the most eligible bachelors in the country. He became linked with a lot of the industry’s young leading ladies, such as Angel Locsin and Anne Curtis. Anne became his girlfriend, and their relationship was marked with a “scandal” video with showed the young lovers kissing torridly in bed. The pair broke up reportedly because of lifestyle differences.
