Mo Twister
The controversial DJ Mo Twister is one of the most famous radio and TV personalities in the Philippines. Known for his acerbic wit and knack for asking sensitive questions, Mo Twister was able to parlay his success in radio into a career in television.
Mo’s real name is Mohan Gumatay, and he was born in Queens, New York on October 19, 1977. While studying at the De La Salle University in Manila, Mo decided to enter the radio business mainly to earn extra money. The young DJ, together with his longtime radio partner Miles, became famous through their successful radio show “Early Returns Countdown” on Magic 89.9. Mo made a strong impression on radio audiences and gained a huge following among listeners. Coupled with his good looks, Mo’s success earned him TV stints, commercial endorsements and movie appearances. What used to be just a sideline turned out to be a profitable and long-time career for Mo.
In 2002, Mo left the Philippines and studied in the U.S. for several years. He returned to the country in 2005 and resumed his radio career in Magic 89.9, this time as host of the morning show “Good Times with Mo”, together with Joseph Javier (aka Mojo Jojo) and Andi Manzano (aka Andi-9). The show became immensely popular because of the liberal, controversial topics and the on-air chemistry between the hosts. Faithful listeners tune in every morning to the show to listen to the easy banter between Mo, Andi-9 and Mojo Jojo. “Good Times with Mo” also became notorious because of its weekly segment called Forbidden Questions, in which Mo would ask 40 questions to a celebrity guest. The questions often dwell on the intimate, personal and provocative, and a lot of the guests’ answers became tabloid material.
Mo is often linked to some of the most beautiful women in showbiz, which added to his notoriety even more. Among those women is his on-air partner Andi-9, his former TV co-host Janette McBride, and actress Rhian Ramos. He has a lovechild with former actress Bunny Paras, who is now based in Los Angeles.
