Heidi Klum
German-American beauty Heidi Klum is currently one of the best-known models in the world. Her killer body and her glorious smile and disposition made it possible for her to expand her interests beyond modeling. This Victoria’s Secret model is also an Emmy Award-nominated host of the top-rating show Project Runway. She is also a producer, an actress and a designer.
Heidi was born in Bergisch Gladbach, Germany on June 1, 1973. She entered modeling in 1992, when she joined a national modeling contest. She won the competition and was offered a contract.
Since then, Heidi has become a cover girl for numerous well-known magazines such as Elle, Vogue and Marie Claire. Her career took a stratospheric rise when she landed on the cover of Sports Illustrated in 1998, the magazine’s first German cover girl. She became a spokesperson for several prestigious brands such as Liz Claiborne, Braun and Volkswagen. The German beauty became a model for Victoria’s Secret in 1997 and became one of the brand’s most recognizable faces. She also appeared in several movies and TV shows such as Sex and the City, Ella Enchanted and Blow Dry.
In 2004, Heidi became the host and executive producer of Project Runway, the reality show from Bravo where fashion designers compete to launch their own line at the New York Fashion Week. She was nominated for an Emmy in 2008. Heidi also became the host of Germany’s Next Topmodel.
Aside from modeling and TV hosting, Heidi also ventured into fashion designing. She has designed for Birkenstock, Jordache and the mail order catalog Otto. She also produced a perfume line and makeup for Victoria’s Secret.
Personal life
Heidi married stylist Ric Pipino in 1997 and got divorced five years later. After her marriage ended, she became involved with Red Hot Chili Peppers frontman Anthony Kiedis and Formula-1 executive Flavio Briatore. She became pregnant with his daughter Helene. Heidi and Flavio ended their relationship when pictures of Flavio kissing jewelry heiress Fiona Swarovski became public.
She met singer Seal in 2004 and got married a year later in Mexico. They now have two sons. In 2008, Heidi Klum became a naturalized citizen of the U.S.
