Guide to Buying Mattresses

A good mattress is an investment for a good night’s sleep and better back health. Quality mattresses can be expensive, but the price is definitely worth it when you consider the comfort and the durability that come with a really good mattress. Since you will be spending majority of your time in bed, you might as well buy something that will make you sleep well.

There are several types of mattresses. Some of the common ones are:

  • Innerspring

This is probably the most common type of mattress. It has numerous coils inside which are surrounded by foam or other type of cushioning. There are different types of springs and padding for innerspring mattresses.

  • Latex foam

Latex foam beds have no coils. This mattress is made up of foam layers which conform to the shape of your body.

  • Futons

Sofa beds are considered as futons. They primarily serve as sofas but can be unfolded into beds. These space-savers have become popular with people living in studio houses and trailer units.

  • Airbeds

Usually used for camping, airbeds have also become popular for home use. Air is pumped inside the mattress and it can be easily deflated for storage.

When buying a mattress, you need to consider several factors. Before making a purchase, make sure that the mattress is firm and comfortable enough for the person who will sleep on it. Test the mattress by lying on it. If you will be sleeping with a partner, both of you should do the testing. Also, consider the back condition of the person. Those who have back problems are better off buying an airbed or a waterbed, which can adjust the firmness for each person.

Pick out the perfect size. Know the exact measurements of your bed frame before shopping for a mattress. Common dimensions are single, twin, double, Queen and King. You can also have your mattress customized according to your preferences.
