Aga Muhlach
One of the country’s bonafide movie stars, Aga Muhlach is the Philippines’ ultimate matinee idol, the one that aspiring matinee idols look up to. The multi-award actor, known for his handsome face and wholesome appeal as much for his great acting skills, started his career as a child actor. Born Ariel Aquino Muhlach on August 12, 1969, show business runs in Aga’s blood. His aunt is Amalia Fuentes, a great dramatic actress. His cousin is Nino Muhlach, a very popular child actor during the 1970s.
His first film appearance was in May Lalaki sa Ilalim ng Kama in 1978. His matinee idol status originated from his teeny-bopper roles in Bagets and Super-Wan-Tu-Tri. Aga moved on to dramatic roles and starred in Miguelito, Ang Batang Rebelde. He got a Best Supporting Actor nomination from the FAMAS and Best Actor nomination from the Gawad Urian. He finally won his first award in Napasakit, Kuya Eddie, where he got a Best Supporting Actor trophy from the Gawad Urian.
Aga’s popularity and bankability as an actor intensified during the 1990s. He starred in numerous films with popular leading ladies. He won more awards for his dramatic roles. The actor also graced the small screen, where he showed his talent for comedy. He starred in sitcoms such as Oki Doki Doc and Da Body en da Guard.
His status in showbiz made him one of the most in-demand endorsers in the country. Aga is reportedly second only to actress Sharon Cuneta when it comes to number of endorsement contracts. He is a long-time endorser for the Jollibee fastfood chain.
Aga became a young dad when he got actress Janice de Belen pregnant at the height of their teenage career. The two never married each other but remained friends. With his looks and charm, Aga successfully wooed two of the most beautiful women in the business. He grabbed headlines when he became involved with former Miss Universe Dayanara Torres, who eventually married singer Mark Anthony. As for Aga, he married another great beauty, Charlene Gonzales, who represented the country in the 1994 Miss Universe Pageant. They are proud parents of twins Andres and Atasha.
