Remove Acne through Skin Care

Skin care is important at any time of life but especially so if you have acne. One of the secrets for keeping acne under control is maintaining the health of the skin as much as possible. This means keeping the skin clean and protecting it from sources of damage like sunshine and harsh cosmetics.
Cleaning of the Skin
Use a gentle soap or specialized skin cleanser for washing the face once or twice a day. It is important not to scrub the skin as this will further aggravate the acne. Just use a soft cloth to moisten the face and then apply the cleanser to all areas from the hairline to the neck. Rinse the cleanser with plenty of water and pat your face drive with a soft towel.
Those with especially oily skin may need to use an astringent, but it must be used with care. Only apply it to the parts of the face which are most oily and discontinue use if your skin becomes irritated. It is best to consult with a dermatologist if you feel you need to use an astringent.
Hair care is also an important part of skin care. Shampoo your hair two or three times a week and try to keep it off your face as much as possible. Those with oily hair may need to wash their hair once a day.

Protect Your Skin from the Sun
A suntan may dry out the skin and make your acne less noticeable but this is only temporary. As your skin becomes accustomed to sun exposure the acne will flare up once again, and in the meantime you are also risking skin damage that may cause it to age prematurely or even cause skin cancer. Many of the medication used to treat acne cause the skin to become more sensitive to sunshine and more vulnerable to burning. It is best to wear a sunscreen when going outdoors.

Choose Makeup with Care
The best choice for good skin care is to wear no makeup at all, but if you feel you must wear makeup choose products that will not clog the pores. These are labeled noncomedogenic, but they may still cause acne to some people. Above all, avoid makeup with an oil base. Read the labels carefully and use sparingly.

Try both electric razors and safety razors to see which is more comfortable for you. Don’t use safety razors with dull blades — change the blade every two or three times you’ve shaved. You may have to shave around blemishes to avoid cutting them, and be sure to soften the beard as much as possible with water and shaving cream. If you happen have a lot of breakouts perhaps it is best to skip shaving that day.

Avoid Touching the Skin
As tempting as it may be too squeeze and pop those pimples, don’t do it! You are only inviting more trouble because the bacteria which causes pimples will spread. Popping pimples can also lead to permanent scarring.
Try to avoid touching your face as much as possible. Many people do this unconsciously, but the hands are dirty and oily and can spread germs over greater areas of your skin.
Acne can be brought under control. Medication is a great help in clearing up the skin and fighting the bacteria which causes acne, but be sure to help it along as much as possible by taking good care of your skin.

Tips to Boost Your Metabolism to Lose Weight

Working out to lose weight? Or maybe just trying to live a healthier lifestyle? Well, whatever your reason may be, you can never go wrong with boosting up your metabolism. What is Metabolism? Metabolisms is the rate which your body produces and consumes energy to support life. So basically, it’s the speed of how fast you breakdown all the food you eat and turn it into energy instead of stored fat. Here a few ways to get your metabolism back up: Build up on lean body mass. It is only natural that metabolism decreases along with age, but it is possible to counter the effects. The amount of muscle a person has is a very strong determinant in the ability to burn calories and shed fat. So it goes without saying that exercise is essential. Build strength and resistance by working out at least twice a week, preferably with weights. Do easy exercises in between workouts. Simple tasks such as walking the dog and using the stairs in place of the elevator can already take off calories. The key is to match the amount of eating to the amount of activity one has. Eat Breakfast Are you one of those people that skip out on eating breakfast? Well, you better re-think what you’re doing. Studies shows that when you skip, you’re actually coaxing your body to store fat. Avoid Sugar Excess Sugar turns into fat. It is recommended that a person consumes food that helps sustain an even level of blood-sugar. Additionally, progressive exercise 2-3 times a week should be in order to stabilize blood sugar. Eat Spicy Food Hot cuisine with peppers can increase metabolism. Sleep more According to research, it is riskier for people who do not get enough sleep to gain weight. Also, muscles are regenerated during the last couple of hours of slumber. Increase water intake Water flushes out toxins that are produced whenever the body burns fat. Majority of bodily functions involves water, and lack of water causes the body system's operations to decrease its speed, and produces unneeded stress as a result. Eat smaller meals more often It is advisable to consume 4 to 6 small meals that are timed 2 to 3 hours apart. Never skip meals People tend to skip meals in order to lose weight, which is a big mistake since it slows down metabolism. Plan meals in detail Always prepare the right amount of food to be consumed at the designated intervals. Do not commit the mistake of eating meals in sporadic patterns. Ditch the stress Stress, be it physical or emotional, triggers the release of a steroid called cortisol, which decreases metabolism. Also, people tend to eat excessively when stressed. Drink Green Tea It can be used as a substitute for coffee. Tea has the ability to stimulate metabolism, and unlike coffee, it has no undesirable side effects when too much is consumed. Achieving the desired body weight is never impossible if one has the determination and patience needed to stabilize the metabolism level, which plays an important role in weight loss. A person needs to realize that eating right and working out is not just a passing fancy, but a way of life.

Single and ready to mingle? Buy a smartphone!

I am sure that neither Leonard Kleinrock, JCR Licklider, Larry Roberts, Bob Kahn, Vint Cerf, nor Radia Perlman had any idea that when they were developing the concept of the internet, it will be used for this – mobile dating. I remember in the early 90's during my pre-teen years, it was all about looking cool like a member of a boy band, shooting hoops during the summer to impress some girl in the audience and later have a summer fling which you brag about when school starts – very reminiscent of Grease' Summer Nights I know. Then in late 90's and early this century, most of the people around the globe were into online dating. Trying to be worldly, people started joining chatrooms, getting email addresses, visiting each other's country and later on getting married; if not, the process just repeats itself. Online dating became a bigger sensation when webcams and headsets were introduced to the world and still is a hit. Then came the smartphones. A few months back, very much single during St. Valentines Day, two of my best friends came and went on a wine bender with me. During our discussion of dating, one of my friends mentioned that he, being a very gay man that he was, had excellent “gay-dar” which is why he had a very active dating life. Noting various instances when people are wrong when judging people's sexual preferences, especially when it came to celebrities, I tried to disprove his gay-dar theory. Little did I know that what he meant was something more concrete - an application on his iPod Touch pointing out other gay people to him – Grindr. It is a social media application where one can locate gay people within distance of the user. It was quick and easy with photos and basic information about the people for conversation starters. I asked him, “Is there a counterpart for straight people?” He, then, told me about Blendr, a social media application for my iPhone to track down single women. I downloaded it immediately and it even had a screening process based on location and age preferences. This connected me to hundreds of single women who had varied reasons for joining in - from looking for one night stands to finding “the one,” all in the palm of my hands. Most men will agree when I say that one of the best parts of a romantic relationship is the chase; That is why even some married men still flirt around – to feel that rush of excitement of trying to bait a girl into liking them. With a mobile dating application on your smartphone, you can have that feeling at one touch a button. Going through Apple's App Store, there is a whole list of other mobile dating application. Being the geek I am, I did the math. If Blendr can connect me to at least a hundred women, downloading other applications can only double my chances. So I tracked down two of the best applications with good reviews online, OK Cupid and SKOUT. Skout Blendr, OK Cupid and SKOUT have thousands of users from the Philippines and millions all over the globe. Each application has its preference selection tool allowing you to modify who you want to see and who can see you. Using location services for iPhone users, you can even track those around your area with Blendr calculating the distance down to the last meter. You can send photos and private messages over the application, which saves the hassle of getting their phone numbers. For SKOUT, you can even build a "hotlist" where you can make an inventory of users you really like and get back to their profiles easier than browsing through the whole lot all over again. OK Cupid has a very comprehensive series of questions that matches your answers to others from simple hygiene questions to belief systems. True enough, I've had meaningful conversations with plenty of women, who were, in a Pick-Up Artist's scale, would be 8's, 9's and even 10's. More than their looks, most of the women I've talked to were very smart from degree holders to supervisors in their companies. I got more information from them than what I would've gotten from an actual date. In a world that moves faster than us, mobile dating has become a great tool for meeting new people and cutting the barriers of awkward conversations and the hassle of city traffic. But it does beg the question, how far will mobile dating go? Just like internet dating, it may be used for prostitution and mail-order brides. It is not far, if not happening now., when membership in these applications become saturated with exploiters who sell themselves to the highest bidder. So I leave a caveat to my fellow users, be wary to those people you talk to. They may be just after your personal information, or worse, your money. With the convenience of dating nowadays, why pay for something you can have for free and it comes better because it is not founded on something as superficial as money. Nevertheless, the technology is out there. I'm excited to find out what will be next after mobile dating. Teleporters maybe?

Water Filters

Water Taste If you’ve ever lived in an area where the tap water isn’t tasty, then you know how important a water filtration system can be. Some people won’t even cook with water from the tap, and sales of water filters have grown substantially since 2007, increasing at a rate of 25%. Removes Chemicals from Drinking Water The reason for the rise in water filter purchases could be due to the increase in drilling and fracking, which environmentalists fear could contaminate our water supplies. So what should a water filter do for you? Maybe you just don’t like drinking chlorine or other chemicals used to sanitize water and cleanse it of harmful bacteria. Choose the Correct Water Filter In order to figure out what kind you need, you have to know what you might be filtering out! Homeowners get a report from the city, showing them what’s lurking in their water. And you may be shocked to find out what trace pharmaceuticals you’re drinking day after day. But each house is unique. Older homes may have lead contamination, for example. Kinds of Water Filters There are different types of water filters. You have those that attach to the waterspout, countertop or cabinet versions, and carafes. A carafe is the least expensive option, but it also does the least amount of work as far as volume goes. Faucet mounted filters might slow the flow of your water from what you’re used to. But the taste of your water will improve, if that’s been a problem in your home. Countertop filters take up space, but do a great job of filtering your water and giving you a better tasting drink. If counter space is limited, you might look for one that goes under the sink in a cabinet. You’ll need a special hole drilled for dispensing the drink. What You Need to Know Before you buy a water filter, check reviews to see how fast it filters the water. Sometimes you need water in a hurry, and if the filtration system moves too slow, it won’t be of any use to you. You also want a water filtration system that is compatible with your kitchen area in size and ease of attachment. If taste is more of a concern than contaminants, look at reviews to see which ones improve taste the most, because some don’t alter it enough to make a difference. Keep in mind that investing in a water filtration system isn’t just a one time expense. You’ll need to buy cartridges or filter replacements to keep the gadget performing at its best, but luckily, they generally last quite a long time, so it’s not very often that you’ll need to buy these. Good, clean water is definitely worth it.

FASHIONABLY LATE - often used to describe a socialite’s understanding of time and are exactly the words to describe the second show of Fashion i at the Genting Club, Resorts World Manila last December 3.

Cocktails and the Wait

Being punctual like many of the guests, I arrived at the show around seven o’clock in the evening for a round of cocktails. Fashionistas and club members were lounging around and getting their pictures taken with the display of some of the best works of the designers. Unfortunately, the show started about 30 minutes past the expected time so everyone was really anxious and spent their time getting updated with the LA Galaxy versus Azkals football game while waiting to be let in the show area.

Despite the wait, the show did not disappoint. Hosted by the lovely and courteous Joey Mead-King, the show featured the designs of Pablo Cabahug, Eric Delos Santos, Joel Escober and Anthony Ramirez. As expected, the show was incredible. In between designers were intermission numbers by Resorts World’s dancers.

The Collections

Pablo Cabahug’s designs were very sophisticated and were more than just ramp worthy items; they were wearable and avant-garde enough to make every contemporary woman who wore them stand out in a crowd.

One thing you’ll love about Eric Delos Santos’ designs is how it will never fail to impress you with his chic and stand out pieces. What stood out most was the dress worn by Ornussa Cadness. It had great details on it from the pattern, use of color and bedazzling embedded in the dress.

I loved the fact that Joel Escober showed off his men’s line. The suits were awesome and I wanted to take them home for myself. The women’s collection was just as gorgeous with a more sensual element.

Anthony Ramirez Fashion i
Anthony Ramirez Fashion i

Anthony Ramirez was the last to showcase his designs and gave one hell of an ender for Fashion i. Those scarab-like patterns were so intricate and stunning, and I can’t wait to his next collection.

Part Three

The show is the second installment of a series of fashion shows hosted by Resorts World Manila and sponsored by Mega Publishing Group, Mercedes Benz, Maybelline and lifestyleasia. The third and final installment will be on the tenth of December featuring master designers like Randy Ortiz and Rajo Laurel.

5 Quick Reasons why You Need to Manage your Personal Finances

Personal finance management should not be neglected at any age. Young professionals may not be thinking about saving for the rainy days, but the best time to jumpstart your savings is when you are still young – good income, lesser expenses, and better health. Nonetheless, no matter age you may be, managing your personal finances is still very important. Here are five quick reasons why you need to manage your personal finances, now. 1. You need to save up for the not-so-sunny days. It’s about time you face it. It’s not everyday that everything will be smooth sailing with your expenses. Your house may suddenly need huge repairs or your child may need to take up tutorial classes to catch up with his or her lessons. Someone in the family could fall ill, and they may not be covered by your own health insurance. Unforeseen circumstances such as these make it important for you to have a good financial life. 2. Cushion against the recessive times. Many of the countries around the world today are still feeling the pinch of the global recession. More and more companies are laying workers off and the prices of commodities are not getting any cheaper. By managing your personal finances well, you can keep yourself from going into debt. Also, you will have savings to cover for expenses when days are much rougher than usual. 3. Lack of job security. Unless you are employed by the government, you could be at risk of getting laid off or for your working hours to be reduced. By managing your finances effectively, you will not have to deal with huge debts due to job loss or job reassignments. Many people end up selling their stuff or borrowing more money because they are no longer able to pay credit card or loan debts after having lost their regular incomes. 4. Prepare for a family life. If you plan on settling down someday, you need to have a stable financial health today. Starting a family is not easy as you will need to secure a mortgage, pay for medical bills, home repairs, and tuition. 5. Comfortable retirement. Who doesn’t want a comfortable retirement? If you want to have a substantial retirement fund for when you finally leave work and retire, make sure that you put enough into your savings now. By obtaining a good retirement plan and by religiously saving for it, you can enjoy a comfortable life during your golden years.

Thanksgiving Turkey Dinner

Creating a Traditional Thanksgiving Dinner It’s that time of year once again. The leaves are beginning to change colors, Halloween is approaching quickly, the kids are in school and have adjusted, and Thanksgiving is just around the corner. Creating a traditional Thanksgiving meal is easy, even for a novice cook. Thanksgiving Turkey Dinner Ingedients Start with a shopping list. For a family of four, a smaller turkey will fit the bill, take less time to cook and still provide plenty of left overs for those delicious cold turkey sandwiches the next day. A basic list will include the turkey, of course, cranberry sauce, gravy, stuffing, sweet potatoes, and for some families - green beans and French fried onions for a casserole. Biscuits or crescent rolls with butter are a great addition as well. Don’t forget the pumpkin pie and the whipped cream! Avoid the Rush Buy Early Purchase the items on your list 3-4 days before the big day. This will give your turkey plenty of time to defrost if it is frozen. Always allow the turkey to defrost over the course of a few days in the freezer, rather than sitting it out on the counter for hours. This will prevent bacteria from developing, which can cause food poisoning. No one wants food poisoning. If the turkey is still slightly frozen on Thanksgiving, place the plastic wrapped turkey in the sink and run cold water over it for a while. This will help speed defrosting. Thanksgiving Turkey Dinner Preparation After the turkey is defrosted it is time to prep it for cooking. Preheat the oven to the manufacturers recommended temperature. Remove the plastic wrapper from the bird and discard it. Remove the wrapped package that is in the turkey and place it to the side. This is the innards and the neck and can be used later to make other things. Rinse the turkey in cold water and remove any remaining feathers by pulling them out. If they are hard to get out, grab a pair of pliers to remove them. Pat the turkey dry with paper towels and throw them out. Place the turkey, breast side up, on a rack in a deep roasting pan. For a crispy and delicious skin, melt a half stick of butter and brush it on the turkey, making sure to get all of the parts including the wings and legs. After coating the turkey with the butter, sprinkle garlic powder and black pepper all over the bird, again getting the wings and legs. After seasoning the turkey, place it in the preheated oven. Checking it frequently, allow the turkey to bake for the correct amount of time as indicated by the label. Once the skin begins to brown, pull the turkey out for a minute and baste it with 2 cups of turkey broth. Cover the turkey with foil at this time and return it to the oven. Baste it every 30 to 40 minutes with the juices from the pan, recover and return it to the oven. You may be wondering about the stuffing. Well, for safeties sake, and because crispy stuffing just tastes better, this guide calls for the stuffing to be prepared separately in a baking dish. Stuffed turkeys can be havens for bacteria and can cause both the stuffing and the turkey to not cook thoroughly. Thanksgiving Turkey Stuffing Approximately 1 hour before the turkey is scheduled to be done, begin preparing the other dishes. The stuffing can be made using chicken or turkey broth to add additional flavor. After preparing the stuffing on the stove top, spread it out evenly in a baking dish and place it in the oven below the turkey. This will give the stuffing a crispy top layer, with a softer layer underneath. Don't Forget the Cranberries A delicious alternative to plain cranberry sauce is to mix whole berry cranberry sauce with a can of drained pineapple tidbits. The pineapple adds a unique flavor to the sauce and goes well with the turkey and stuffing. Another great side dish is a string bean casserole, made with fresh string beans, cream of mushroom soup and topped with crunchy fried onion strings. Sweet Potatoes the Right Way For the sweet potatoes, a casserole is another great way to go. After cleaning and taking off any bad parts, take your sweet potatoes, cut them up into 1-2 inch chunks and place in a microwave safe bowl. Add 3 tablespoons of butter, also in chunks, to the bowl. Microwave on high for 4 minutes, then stir or mash the potatoes and butter together in the bowl. Return it to the microwave for an additional 4 minutes, then remove and stir again. To the sweet potato and butter mash, add cinnamon and sugar to taste, stirring to mix it thoroughly. Once it is mixed, place the mixture into an oven safe baking dish. Top with granola and miniature marshmallows and bake for 15 minutes, or until the marshmallows are melted and browned. Almost There By now, the turkey should be done. Most turkeys come with a pop-up timer. If it has not popped yet, keep checking every 5 minutes until it does. Once the timer is popped, remove the turkey from the oven and put in the green bean casserole and biscuits. Place the turkey on a safe surface and keep it covered for at least 20 minutes with aluminum foil. This allows the turkey to rest, reach its maximum cooking temperature and gives the juices a chance to settle back into the meat. Cutting into a turkey as soon as it is removed from the oven is a sure way to lose all of the juices and get a dry turkey. Thanksgiving Turkey Carving After the turkey has rested, and the rest of the dishes have come out of the oven, it is time to carve the bird. Start by removing the legs and wings. After slicing with a sharp knife in the joint of each piece, using a bit of force, bend it backward until you hear a crack. You can then slice through the rest of the way, creating clean cut pieces. Once the parts are removed, you can begin slicing the breast meat. Using a sharp knife, slice the meat into thin layers and stack onto a serving dish. Surround the white meat with the legs and wings and serve. Now its Time to Eat Turkey Everyone has different variations on their traditional Thanksgiving meal. Any of the above recipes and ideas can be modified for your family’s preferences and dietary needs. The most important part of preparing for any Holiday meal is not that you enjoy the prep work, the cooking and the eating but that you enjoy spending this important time with your family and friends. Enjoy Thanksgiving Turkey Dinner Happy Holidays!

10 Tips to Prevent Urinary Tract Infection

Caused by a bacterial infection invading the urinary tract system, urinary tract infection or UTI, must be treated quickly when it occurs to avoid complications. Most UTIs are not serious, but will cause serious discomfort and can lead to severe symptoms when urinating such as pain and burning sensations. Keeping your urinary tract system healthy is especially important as it acts as the body's filtering system when removing liquid waste. The bladder, kidneys, ureters and urethra compose the urinary tract. Contracting a UTI is very common, but they are simple steps that will help preventing it. In their lifetime, about 50% of all women will have UTI at least once. Having a shorter urinary tract than men, makes women especially susceptible to UTIs. The common and effective way to treat UTIs is to use antibiotics as prescribed by a doctor. Unfortunately, many women suffer from recurrent UTIs, which can turn into a frustrating cycle. What are the common causes of urinary tract infections? Most commonly, UTIs are caused by a bacteria originating from the bowel located around the rectum or in the vagina. These bacterias can go through the urethra and into the urinary tract. They then travel upwards creating infections in the bladder or other parts of the urinary system. These bacterias can easily come into contact with the urethra during sexual intercourse. Women who are in monogamous relationships or celibate have fewer risks of contracting a UTI. However, taking health precautions during intercourse highly reduces the risks of a UTI. A second common cause of bladder infection or UTI can occur when waiting too long to urinate. The bladder itself is a muscle that stretches to keep urine and contracts when it is emptied after urinating. When waiting too long after you feel the need to pee can lead your bladder beyond its capacity and in time weaken the muscle. Once the bladder is weakened it is possible that it will not empty itself properly and some urine may remain in the bladder leading to possible infections. 10 simple ways to stay healthy and keep urinary tract infections at bay:
1. The easiest step in staying healthy is by drinking plenty of water throughout the day. Water will keep your urinary tract clean and rid your body of toxins. 2. When you feel the need to pee don't wait. Women tend to wait until they finish the task at hand before going to the restroom, but waiting to urinate can help bacteria to develop into an infection. 3. After urinating always wipe yourself from front to back, especially after a bowl movement. This is very important to keep your urethra and vagina clear from any bacteria living on the skin around the anus. 4. Following sexual intercourse, go to the bathroom to urinate and do not wait over 15min before showering. This will keep bacterias from breeding around your urethra or vagina. 5. Taking cool showers rather than warm baths also helps in keeping your urethra safe from bad bacteria. 6. Always be gentle with your genital area when you wash and use an appropriate soap. Feminine hygiene douches and sprays, especially when scented, should be avoided as they may irritate the urethra making it more vulnerable to bacteria causing a UTI. Using a personal hygiene soap containing lactic acid and lactoserum is a great way to maintain the natural acidic pH of the vaginal area. Remember that soap should strictly be used externally. 7. Wearing cotton underwear, or at least with a cotton crotch will avoid moisture from being trapped. Hot and humid areas are breeding grounds for bacteria, so avoid synthetic panties. 8. Use a condom during sexual intercourse to stay safe from possible bacteria transmission from your partner and of course avoid sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). Before anal intercourse, wash the area well and use a condom. After anal intercourse always change condom before vaginal intercourse, or anal bacteria will directly contaminate the vagina and possibly the urethra causing a UTI. 9. What you eat can also help keeping urinary tract infection at bay. Food high in vitamin C or supplements, increase the acidity of urine making it a hostile environment for bacteria. Another power nutritional tip is drinking cranberry juice, which helps prevent UTI and speeds up recovery in case of an infection. 10. For women prone to recurrent UTIs paying attention to your sexual position during intercourse may be the solution to the problem. Choose positions that limit friction to the urethra and switch often. Another way to limit friction can be to trim pubic hair. Women who contract UTIs extremely often should consult their doctor who may prescribe an antibiotic to use after each sexual intercourse to prevent any UTI.

The Health Benefits of Coffee

Most of us drink coffee to stay awake. A lot of people cannot survive a day without a cup of brew. Now coffee drinkers have a lot more reasons to keep up their caffeine addiction. Studies have proved that drinking coffee can bring numerous health benefits. Researchers at Harvard Universities discovered that drinking up to three cups of coffee a day can actually reduce the risk of having diabetes. Those who drink six cups or more daily have it even better – diabetes risk in men can be reduced by 54% and in women can be lessened by 30%. According to research scientist Tomas DePaulis, PhD from Vanderbilt University’s Institute for Coffee Studies, coffee is far more healthful than harmful. Other studies found out that those who drink coffee regularly are less likely to develop Parkinson’s disease. Some studies suggest that the more a person consumes coffee, the less chance that will it will develop. Aside from this, it was discovered people who drink two cups of coffee a day can reduce their risk of colon cancer, compared to a person who does not drink coffee at all. Other scientists have found evidence that coffee can even help asthma under control, alleviate headaches and prevent cavities. The studies revealed that caffeine is the ingredient responsible for the numerous health benefits of coffee. Because of this, drugs for Parkinson’s disease are being developed with caffeine derivatives. Caffeine is also responsible for enhancing athletic endurance. Recently, it was classified by the Olympic Games Committee as a “controlled substance” and that athletes who are competing in the games can only consume it in small amounts. The studies also remind people us that coffee drinking is not for everyone. Excessive doses of caffeine can have negative effects on some people. These effects include trembling of the hands, increased nervousness, and can cause the heart to beat rapidly. Doctors advise that these particular individuals regulate the amount of caffeine that they consume.
